Welcome to the book club! zao_zao :geek:

Here you can talk about the books you're reading atm, already finished books, tbr-lists, share your favorite books, write reviews or recommendations of the books... The genre doesn't matter! :D

I start with my recommendations for the spooky season: :ahhh:

- The Magpie Society -duology by Zoe Sugg and Amy McCulloch. It's not too scary! It has dark academy vibes, mysteries, secret corridors, secret society, murders and ya drama.
- The Ravens and The Monarchs by Kass Morgan and Danielle Paige. It's also a duology about a girl who finds out she's a witch and needs to pass the exams to become a part of the witch society. The witches need to hide their powers from "normal" people.
- Pet Sematary by Stephen King. A buried pet comes back alive - is it the same cat anymore and what has actually come back with it? At first I thought this book wasn't THAT scary, but after reading it I was a bit scared of the cats for a while so the book actually had an huge effect on me with its creepiness

I have a lot of books I've read recently actually, but they're all in portuguese but one, so I need to find its name among the sea of messages with my friends and I'll come back with it and a synopsis, it was so good though. in_love_

Also the third one sounds really interesting! //MWOMWO"

A common mistake, from what I've heard. :D Though I haven't read any of his works myself - seemed to have luck to always be around avid King's readers, who would tell You everything about given book they were just going through, so I almost feel as I have read them :D

I am currently reading three books:
- the complete Brambly Hedge - I've only recently saw the ilustrations to it, which were so cute, I've decided to get a copy, and right now I am reading one story just before bed, and I've only two more to go :(

- Tinker Bell and the Lost City - somewhat based on the lost media movie (?), it seems a continuation to the old Disney Fairies, but now in steampunk settings.

- "Walks through moomin valley. Philosopical and literary perspective" - few years back the author published "philosophical and translationary journey through moomin valley", which was very interesting and charming, this one, though, is rough and very forced :/ (titles of these two are in quotation marks, cause they're not originally in english ).

I have recently seen this club and I need to post because I love books :ahhh: .

I'm actually reading Brisingr, from the Eragon saga. I'm not a huge fan of it, but I know a lot of people that loves this saga, so I'm giving it a chance (or a lot, actually).

My next book probably will be Callie Hart's Quiksilver (I have the beautiful special edition). After Brisingr, I read Fourth Wing. It was ok but... I'm not obsessed like other girls.

I have to say that I read everything in spanish, my language.

¿Have you read any of them? ¿Did you liked it? zao_zao

Years ago I've tried reading Eragon, but I didn't got far into it. (Surpisingly my mom went through the whole four book cycle one winter...)

As for the other titles You've mentioned, I generally avoid all the promoted books from "top pick" shelf, cause I don't seem to have luck with them. But I've defiiotely heard very mixed opinions about both.

There is a lot of people that likes the saga, my boyfriend for exampale LOVES it. I don't understand. I had mixed feelings with the first book, but hated the second. I can't speak about Brinsingr because I only have read a few pages.

And, I understand your opinion about those popular books, for me are just books I can read fast without thinking a lot. Like the typical Wattpad fan-fic (in fact, some popular authors were fan-fic creators). If I want something more complex, I just pick a book from classical authors or a good Spanish/Latino writer.

I suppose it's a "take it or leave it" type of series, but good luck with the third one!

Oh, my main problem with the popular titles is rather that I have many, many irks that stop me from reading, either starting, or going forward. And one of these many irks, is my absolute atipathy towards first person narration, which seems common especially in modern books coming from english speaking countries, which are often on those front shelves... :ehmeh::
(It doesn't mean I've never read first person narration books. I went through the "Hunger Games" trilogy, or "On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous", though one could argue, that the latter is also a second person narration. It's just that the form often doesn't work for me, or for the story, vide "the Mockingjay"...)

Do You have anything like that? Also what Spanish authors/books would You recommend?

I see... If you don't like first person it turns really difficult to read this books, because they are all the same. Some have changing POV an others don't but it turns out to be the same :? .

About Spanish authors, my classical favourite it's Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. Specially the tales or Legends, some have a magical and ethereal vive I love. Talking about one that is alive, Lorenzo Silva's book "La lluvia de París" was very important for me when I was younger, and nowadays I continue loving it. To finish my recommendations I need to talk about lationamerican authors. Chronicle of a Death Foretold form Gabriel García Marquéz was my introduction to them an it's impressing, but most of his books like the ones wrote by the recently deceased Mario Vargas Llosa are very good.

Yes, I noticed that was a popular trend...

Oh, so Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer was a poet! It seemed some of his works have been translated here, so perphaps I will be able to find some in library. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem the case for Lorenzo Silva :(

Oh yeah I know both Marquéz and Llosa. I read some of their books years ago, and my sister really adores them. If You don't mind me asking is there any difference between the Spanish and Latinoamerican (literary) language, or when written they feel pretty similar?
