Sorry for the late reply :ehmeh:: it's so hard to collect thoughts and find the time to respond in this adult life   :ehmeh::

Hallowinxer wrote:Using the slang words is actually really interesting: in Finnish Winx dub they spoke with a more formative style in the first seasons but after season 4 they started using more slang words and switched all of the voice actors that it sounded so horrible I needed to switch to English sub :ehmeh:: The Finnish dub on W.i.t.c.h. was on youtube but got deleted because of the new copyright laws so I can't check how they spoke anymore  But as I recall they spoke really naturally and the dialogue was full of good humour. Actually I should check if there're the same jokes in the English dub as well, such as the scene where Blunk (Caleb's friend, not sure if this is his international name or just Finnish name) stole a cab accidentally because someone has told him "just to get a taxi" so he LITERALLY just took one   And Blunk spoke broken Finnish which sounded really hilarious. I don't know if he spoke broken languages in other dubs too but it was a cool detail. But actually the more I think, the more feel like the W.i.t.c.h. girls spoke more teenage-like than Winx girls  But somehow it felt natural to me back then so I didn't pay attention to it, maybe because they didn't change the voice actors so I just got used to the way they're speaking. Uhh I'm always bubbling so much

It's so cool that they re-released the comics in Russia! You're really living in a renessaince of Winx and W.i.t.c.h. /houra//

Hmm, that's interesting! Winx's speech sounds pretty neutral in Russian language. And as far as I know, we luckily had the same dub team for all the seasons (though there were some changes in voices). Except that season 5 was first released in a Nickelodeon dub, where there were completely different voice actors. Fans were, to put it mildly, terrified and unhappy with it   The new voices didn't suit the characters' personalities at all, the songs were sung poorly... Season 5 later still appeared in a familiar old dubbing and I don’t know if Nickelodeon continued to dub the following seasons

It's a shame that Finnish W.i.t.c.h. dub was removed from YouTube. Maybe it can still be found somewhere on the Internet? :(

LMAO Blunk is so iconic  I was a bit disappointed to find out he doesn’t exist in the comics. :| But maybe the comic format would’ve been too limiting for his expressive personality anyway... In Russian he also speaks in broken language! :D
You're so right about good humour  I even use one joke from the series time to time in my own speech.

Now I also want to compare some moments in English and Russian dub of W.i.t.c.h. :ahhh: I remember one specific joke from the first season and I wonder what was the equivalent for this joke in English and other languages.
In Russian language we have an informal slang expression "it's a plague" which means "this is lit/cool" (omg now that I try to explain it, it sounds terrible   Honestly, I have no idea about the etymology of this...). In one of the first episodes Hay Lin was creating a new outfit for Caleb. And when grandma Yang Lin saw the new outfit, she commented "This outfit is cholera!" and Hay Lin corrected that it's a "plague", not "cholera" :ehmeh::

Hallowinxer wrote:Lol I have Believix Power Stella and Musa (she arrived a couple of weeks ago) but I don't have their wings  Maybe I'll try to make custom ones one day. But I feel like many don't remember this line. Well it's rare after all.

But yeah I feel you, I follow so many winxstagram accounts and the amount of different jakks dolls still keeps surprising me  And I agree, they've made so pretty versions of the transformations I haven't been so keen on before! :ahhh: I just found out how gorgeous the Bloomix Power and Mythix wand (or something like that) dolls look like and I'm amazed in_love_

Wow, congrats on your purchase! :ahhh: I saw custom Winx doll wings on Avito (Russian equialent of eBay/Vinted), and now I understand why it's a thing.
Wait, do they have Mythix dolls too? :o   I should check it out
For some reason for many years I thought that Rainbow and Jakks Pacific's collaboration ended after the fifth season :?

By the way, have you ever seen Winx OOAKs by a creator with the nickname hitomy ito?
I don’t know if she’s popular on Instagram since I saw her works on VK, but she creates incredibly impressive very detailed Winx OOAKs that even include packaging. in_love_ I generally feel neutral about OOAKs, but her works are something

It's a shame that voice actors have been changed in Russian version too :( Actually when I think about the singers, the Finnish singers were good in the seasons 1-3 (exept Musa's concert in s2 was a bit hilarious because the singer sounded MUCH older than Musa  ) but after the voice actors and singers changed, I didn't like to new singers either. I didn't understand the hype about Winx songs back then because I didn't like most of the Finnish singers but after listening to the original songs by Elisa Rosselli I started really enjoying them in_love_ Her voice fits perfectly in the songs and sounds really Winxy!!

I haven't actually spent much time on figuring out if the Finnish W.i.t.c.h. episodes still exist somewhere else because I've been so busy but let's hope I find them one day! :geek:

That's amazing that they translated Blunk's broken language to other dubs too because it was so adorable!! /houra// I think also that his way of speaking wouldn't sound as hilarious in comics because you really need to hear his speak to get the best of it. But it'd be nice to see even an extra comic about him.

But now I need to know what joke you're using and see if I still remember it! I also remember this scene with Yan-Lin! In the Finnish version Hay Lin also corrected her grandma but it was just translated into some Finnish teenager slang. Oh now I really need to find the Finnish version because I want to check!! :o But that's really interesting to hear! In Finnish we say "sairaan siistiä" which is literally "it's sickly cool" but the meaning of this saying is just "super cool". Now I want to understand the etymology behind it because we have these "sicknesses" in two languages already  But Yan Lin saying the wrong disease sounds just too adorable!! /flowerpower/

And thank you! /flowerpower/ Btw I'm super amazed how pretty custom wings or dolls some people can make! And I'm following Hitomi on instagram! I don't understand how it's even possible to make so perfect dolls in_love_ in_love_ Winx staff should hire her! The newest Enchantix Stella doll by her is the most beautiful doll I've ever seen and I also love her Trix and Griffin dolls. It's so cool that someone makes dolls about the secondary characters too! /flowerpower/

As far as I know, we still have the same VAs for Bloom, Stella and Flora from the very first season, so I can't complain  Stella's VA is also a singer for all the songs in the series, she's like our Elisa Roselli fr  /houra//

Are you talking about this one?

Oh, Winxy is a good word to describe how Elisa Roselli's voice feels! I literally can't imagine more perfect singer for Winx. I know there were other singers in English/Italian dubbing, and they all sound extremely nostalgic, but for me only Elisa's voice brings some special Magix Style to the songs in_love_

Now I'm not sure, that the joke I use is the same in other languages :o But it's from season 2, the Halloween episode. Napoleon (Cornelia's cat) was used as a bait to lure Nerissa into a trap in the library. And when he walks around the library, he says something like "Greenpeace wouldn't approve this plan" Sounds like nonsense, but I find it funny in the right context  I like how they incorporated a word from the real world into the show btw!
I'll try to look it up in English dub right now, I'm really curious if Greenpeace was mentioned there too

"This is sick" is also a thing in English... There's some pattern. Cognitive linguists really need to write an article on this

I accidentally noticed Hitomi's Icy doll on my feed not so long ago. I don't follow her, but Icy was so mesmerizing and unforgettable that I bring Hitomi's name up literally every time I talk about custom dolls with someone. :D Her dolls seem to have absorbed all the best from all the Winx doll brands (and doubled it!) :!: And I also like that she makes secondary characters in_love_
The work behind custom dolls is really stunning :ahhh: The last time I was deeply interested in OOAKs was almost 10 years ago. Back then, 3D printers weren't that common, but now they seem to have become more accessible or at least more commonly used by doll creators. This opened up so many possibilities! :ahhh:
By the way, I would be glad if you shared your favorite creators, if there are any. :) /flowerpower/

In English dub Napoleon says "Bet you this plan ain't SPCA approved"! :geek: SPCA stands for Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals :geek: We don't have an equivalent of this organization in Russia as well as recognizable translation for it. So now I see why our translators decided to mention Greenpeace instead. Just sounds simpler and better, understandable for everyone  I'm really surprised by the localization, never thought about it before

Hi again and sorry answering super late!! //EHDOHEH/

You're so lucky to have the same VAs!! I'm re-watching the Finnish dub of the 4th season of Winx and it doesn't feel as bad as the 5th season because some of the Winxs still sound like themselves even though VAs have changed and I got to get used to these new VAs when I was a kid but when the 5th season was airing in Finland I was too old to approve the changes AGAIN  It was super weird to focus on the 4th season after so many years (because I always get stuck on repeating 1-3 seasons  ) and now I was like "why do some of the voices sound so familiar like??" And then I realized that there're so many same VAs than in Finnish Code Lyoko and W.i.t.c.h. dub!! Some specialists have the same VA than Odd in Code Lyoko and Caleb in W.i.t.c.h. and I don't remember which of them was Helia but both of them definitely sound too rebel for Helia  And Layla, Kiko and the pets have the same voice than Sissi in Code Lyoko  In the 3rd season Icy had Cornelia's voice but it suited her surprisingly well. But Sissi (who I find really annoying) acting Kiko is... Well... :ehmeh:: Because I really loved Kiko's voice in seasons 1-3. Luckily Layla's voice is okay but Kiko just sounds too much like Sissi screaming //EHDOHEH/

And yes you found exactly the same song I was talking about!! I don't dislike the singer, she has really nice lower vocals but the voice just doesn't suit to Musa imo. But I prefer this singer to the s4 Finnish singers who sound like they have difficulties with the high notes. Elisa Rosselli sings everything so naturally and she always sounds so great in_love_ in_love_ But I need to listen to your Elisa Rosselli II too because now I'm curious!!

Wow I didn't remember there was a Halloween episode on W.i.t.c.h.!! I've seen the 2nd season like... only once(?) when I was a kid so I don't remember much about it. I really need to re-watch the whole W.i.t.c.h. series... when I have time... Maybe next summer  But it was actually really clever to switch these confusing abbreviations to Greenpeace which I suppose almost everyone knows!

Some linguistic needs to write a thesis about language in Winx and W.i.t.c.h. I'd be nerd enough to read it :geek:

And I really adore when people make custom dolls about the secondary characters because I've always dreamed of them and even though I don't own any, it feels so satisfying to SEE photos of them in_love_ Hitomi's dolls just make me speechless in_love_ Have you seen winxksbdoll's account? She makes really cool custom clothes for Winx dolls and have created many of my favorite outfits that weren't made by the official creators like Layla's outfit from the 1st episode of s2? I also love winx_by_sandy's ballgown dresses and creativity overall, and jakeyjakeywinxywinxy's Mirta figure and beldam.dolls's Diana in_love_ Do you have other favorites also because I'm interested in finding more?

Have you tried using 3D printers? I haven't yet but it's possible in some libraries in Finland and I've been thinking if it'd be possible to "clone" another pair of dolls' shoes for example.

It's okay! Glad to see you here again! /houra// Happy New Year 🎅

Oh, I'm rewatching Season 4 too right now! I've also rewatched Seasons 1-3 a thousand times, and this is the first time since childhood that I'm fully rewatching season 4. Moreover, in childhood I watched it on a pirated DVD with terrible unofficial voiceover. :ehmeh::  Now I'm seeing it with proper dubbing for the first time. :ahhh:

I haven't watched Code Lyoko, but I totally get you. Sometimes even when you're immersed in a show you hear these familiar voices that remind you of completely different characters. And you just can't hide from it :x

And I absolutely understand your feelings about the voice changes in Seasons 1-4. In the Russian dub, Musa's, Tecna's, and Layla's voices changed several times during Seasons 1-4, but I don't notice those changes at all because I got used to them as a child. I mean, of course, I noticed the changes, but they feel right to me. But all the new, unfamiliar voices from Season 5 and onward sound super wrong to me, and I'm unnecessary unaccepting towards them.

By the way, one thing that always drives me crazy is that in the Russian dub of Winx all the male characters from Seasons 1–4 had the same voice actor. All the Specialists, Valtor, Darkar, Roxy’s father, Palladium, Avalon... They were all voiced by one person! Sure, if you listen closely, you can tell. But I don't know if it's genius acting, my lack of musical ear, or just inattentiveness, but I never noticed it when I was a child, and I still don't pay much attention to it now :?

As for the song, it really was some unexpected voice range from Musa and Stella... But I like it too though I agree that it does sound a bit old for them. :)
Does Winx Club in Concert have Finnish version by the way?

Our main singer's name is Ekaterina Semenova. I'm not sure if her voice fits Winx as good as Elisa's, but it definitely has these strong associations with Winx for all Russian fans. She performed all the songs in the series. Here's Musa's and Stella's song for example

Thank you sooo much for the recommendations! I'll check out those accounts later! /houra// /flowerpower/
Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with other Winx creators at all. I only visit the "drawing" side of the Russian-speaking Winx community from time to time, where people create and draw their own characters and all that stuff. I know almost nothing about other parts of the fandom.

It's so cool that in Finland you have access to 3D printers in libraries! :ahhh: /houra// I've never used one or even seen one in person. But I know some people buy them for personal use. I just Googled their prices, and it turns out they're actually less expensive than I thought. :?
I've seen 3D models for printer of various stuff for Monster High dolls somewhere online, so it's quite possible that there are some printable models for Winx dolls somewhere as well. :geek:

zao_zao Thanks and happy New year to you too (a bit late since I disappeared for a while again  ) But always when I've come back after a short break there've been so many new updates so it feels like getting Christmas presents all over again. I'm super curious to see others' updated web avatars :ahhh:

The 4th season feels like new and nostalgic at the same time! I don't remember it very well but I remember the hype when it aired in Finland and my friend got also into Winx and we collected 4th season themed stickers to the Believix Panini album. /flowerpower/ I remember some funny lines but I didn't remember the 4th season was so funny overall! And now as an adult it also feels like more stressing because Winxs and specialists moving into a "new" town, trying to find a job and cope with different people out of their comfort zone reminds me too much of THE adult live  Now everything feels like more personal and I understand their struggles much better than I did as a kid.

But yeah I feel you, those voice changes that happened more naturally when we were kids, feel like the characters have grown - you know, everyone's voice changes at least a bit while growing up - so it felt smoother back then and we got used to them. But the more radical changes which happened later were too much for me because some characters really lost their personality with their "lost" voices.

Wow, your male voice actor must be super talented! It feels crazy that ONE person has so many different characters :o With some va's you can hear the similarity too much but maybe that one was just super!!

I think Winx in Concert doesn't have a Finnish version but actually I'm happy about it because after 4th season I didn't like the Finnish singers at all... So I prefer listening to the English songs (I like also Italian ones but I just can't understand anything  ) But your singer Ekaterina sounds really great in my opinion! Her singing voice feels so natural and sounds like it belongs to the same person who is talking and also sounds younger than the Finnish one.

Well if you find one account then they start popping up and you'll find new accounts all the time :D I've been following art accounts too and been into them for a much longer time - I've found the doll custom makers quite recently. I love watching all kind of Winx fan art, fan comics, oc's... They're so creative!

I really need to try those 3d printers one day! But you know, I finally bought a lipstick I was planing to buy already 4 years ago so sometimes I'm a bit slow with my bucket list :ehmeh:: At least on the summer vacation I'll have more time
