Sorry for the late reply :ehmeh:: it's so hard to collect thoughts and find the time to respond in this adult life   :ehmeh::

Hallowinxer wrote:Using the slang words is actually really interesting: in Finnish Winx dub they spoke with a more formative style in the first seasons but after season 4 they started using more slang words and switched all of the voice actors that it sounded so horrible I needed to switch to English sub :ehmeh:: The Finnish dub on W.i.t.c.h. was on youtube but got deleted because of the new copyright laws so I can't check how they spoke anymore  But as I recall they spoke really naturally and the dialogue was full of good humour. Actually I should check if there're the same jokes in the English dub as well, such as the scene where Blunk (Caleb's friend, not sure if this is his international name or just Finnish name) stole a cab accidentally because someone has told him "just to get a taxi" so he LITERALLY just took one   And Blunk spoke broken Finnish which sounded really hilarious. I don't know if he spoke broken languages in other dubs too but it was a cool detail. But actually the more I think, the more feel like the W.i.t.c.h. girls spoke more teenage-like than Winx girls  But somehow it felt natural to me back then so I didn't pay attention to it, maybe because they didn't change the voice actors so I just got used to the way they're speaking. Uhh I'm always bubbling so much

It's so cool that they re-released the comics in Russia! You're really living in a renessaince of Winx and W.i.t.c.h. /houra//

Hmm, that's interesting! Winx's speech sounds pretty neutral in Russian language. And as far as I know, we luckily had the same dub team for all the seasons (though there were some changes in voices). Except that season 5 was first released in a Nickelodeon dub, where there were completely different voice actors. Fans were, to put it mildly, terrified and unhappy with it   The new voices didn't suit the characters' personalities at all, the songs were sung poorly... Season 5 later still appeared in a familiar old dubbing and I don’t know if Nickelodeon continued to dub the following seasons

It's a shame that Finnish W.i.t.c.h. dub was removed from YouTube. Maybe it can still be found somewhere on the Internet? :(

LMAO Blunk is so iconic  I was a bit disappointed to find out he doesn’t exist in the comics. :| But maybe the comic format would’ve been too limiting for his expressive personality anyway... In Russian he also speaks in broken language! :D
You're so right about good humour  I even use one joke from the series time to time in my own speech.

Now I also want to compare some moments in English and Russian dub of W.i.t.c.h. :ahhh: I remember one specific joke from the first season and I wonder what was the equivalent for this joke in English and other languages.
In Russian language we have an informal slang expression "it's a plague" which means "this is lit/cool" (omg now that I try to explain it, it sounds terrible   Honestly, I have no idea about the etymology of this...). In one of the first episodes Hay Lin was creating a new outfit for Caleb. And when grandma Yang Lin saw the new outfit, she commented "This outfit is cholera!" and Hay Lin corrected that it's a "plague", not "cholera" :ehmeh::

Hallowinxer wrote:Lol I have Believix Power Stella and Musa (she arrived a couple of weeks ago) but I don't have their wings  Maybe I'll try to make custom ones one day. But I feel like many don't remember this line. Well it's rare after all.

But yeah I feel you, I follow so many winxstagram accounts and the amount of different jakks dolls still keeps surprising me  And I agree, they've made so pretty versions of the transformations I haven't been so keen on before! :ahhh: I just found out how gorgeous the Bloomix Power and Mythix wand (or something like that) dolls look like and I'm amazed in_love_

Wow, congrats on your purchase! :ahhh: I saw custom Winx doll wings on Avito (Russian equialent of eBay/Vinted), and now I understand why it's a thing.
Wait, do they have Mythix dolls too? :o   I should check it out
For some reason for many years I thought that Rainbow and Jakks Pacific's collaboration ended after the fifth season :?

By the way, have you ever seen Winx OOAKs by a creator with the nickname hitomy ito?
I don’t know if she’s popular on Instagram since I saw her works on VK, but she creates incredibly impressive very detailed Winx OOAKs that even include packaging. in_love_ I generally feel neutral about OOAKs, but her works are something

It's a shame that voice actors have been changed in Russian version too :( Actually when I think about the singers, the Finnish singers were good in the seasons 1-3 (exept Musa's concert in s2 was a bit hilarious because the singer sounded MUCH older than Musa  ) but after the voice actors and singers changed, I didn't like to new singers either. I didn't understand the hype about Winx songs back then because I didn't like most of the Finnish singers but after listening to the original songs by Elisa Rosselli I started really enjoying them in_love_ Her voice fits perfectly in the songs and sounds really Winxy!!

I haven't actually spent much time on figuring out if the Finnish W.i.t.c.h. episodes still exist somewhere else because I've been so busy but let's hope I find them one day! :geek:

That's amazing that they translated Blunk's broken language to other dubs too because it was so adorable!! /houra// I think also that his way of speaking wouldn't sound as hilarious in comics because you really need to hear his speak to get the best of it. But it'd be nice to see even an extra comic about him.

But now I need to know what joke you're using and see if I still remember it! I also remember this scene with Yan-Lin! In the Finnish version Hay Lin also corrected her grandma but it was just translated into some Finnish teenager slang. Oh now I really need to find the Finnish version because I want to check!! :o But that's really interesting to hear! In Finnish we say "sairaan siistiä" which is literally "it's sickly cool" but the meaning of this saying is just "super cool". Now I want to understand the etymology behind it because we have these "sicknesses" in two languages already  But Yan Lin saying the wrong disease sounds just too adorable!! /flowerpower/

And thank you! /flowerpower/ Btw I'm super amazed how pretty custom wings or dolls some people can make! And I'm following Hitomi on instagram! I don't understand how it's even possible to make so perfect dolls in_love_ in_love_ Winx staff should hire her! The newest Enchantix Stella doll by her is the most beautiful doll I've ever seen and I also love her Trix and Griffin dolls. It's so cool that someone makes dolls about the secondary characters too! /flowerpower/

As far as I know, we still have the same VAs for Bloom, Stella and Flora from the very first season, so I can't complain  Stella's VA is also a singer for all the songs in the series, she's like our Elisa Roselli fr  /houra//

Are you talking about this one?

Oh, Winxy is a good word to describe how Elisa Roselli's voice feels! I literally can't imagine more perfect singer for Winx. I know there were other singers in English/Italian dubbing, and they all sound extremely nostalgic, but for me only Elisa's voice brings some special Magix Style to the songs in_love_

Now I'm not sure, that the joke I use is the same in other languages :o But it's from season 2, the Halloween episode. Napoleon (Cornelia's cat) was used as a bait to lure Nerissa into a trap in the library. And when he walks around the library, he says something like "Greenpeace wouldn't approve this plan" Sounds like nonsense, but I find it funny in the right context  I like how they incorporated a word from the real world into the show btw!
I'll try to look it up in English dub right now, I'm really curious if Greenpeace was mentioned there too

"This is sick" is also a thing in English... There's some pattern. Cognitive linguists really need to write an article on this

I accidentally noticed Hitomi's Icy doll on my feed not so long ago. I don't follow her, but Icy was so mesmerizing and unforgettable that I bring Hitomi's name up literally every time I talk about custom dolls with someone. :D Her dolls seem to have absorbed all the best from all the Winx doll brands (and doubled it!) :!: And I also like that she makes secondary characters in_love_
The work behind custom dolls is really stunning :ahhh: The last time I was deeply interested in OOAKs was almost 10 years ago. Back then, 3D printers weren't that common, but now they seem to have become more accessible or at least more commonly used by doll creators. This opened up so many possibilities! :ahhh:
By the way, I would be glad if you shared your favorite creators, if there are any. :) /flowerpower/

In English dub Napoleon says "Bet you this plan ain't SPCA approved"! :geek: SPCA stands for Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals :geek: We don't have an equivalent of this organization in Russia as well as recognizable translation for it. So now I see why our translators decided to mention Greenpeace instead. Just sounds simpler and better, understandable for everyone  I'm really surprised by the localization, never thought about it before
