She's got some good personal traits though. We should take into account that it's a cartoon for children and it's not meant to be a cartoon full of deep thoughts so :D /flowerpower/

Exactly. That's why I find bloom hate unnecessary since this is a children's show. There are similar cases where precure movies focus on main character of the series getting exclusive powers ups.

Unfortunately it's not possible to do too many main characters because of timing restrictions... That's why 3 main characters is a common cliche.

That's a really good point!

Haha these kind of thread are so difficult for me since I feel like my opinions on Winx are mostly popular.
I've been thinking lately that some fairies exaggerate how mean the witches are. I know they bullied Musa with the Trix in the season 1, but also fairies can be really mean to each other (and to specialists), like Amaryl and her friends, and that one fairy who tried to sabotage Winx's acrobatics show in the beginning of the 4th season and made it seem like the another fairy was guilty for it. I know witches are bullying each other too, like they were mocking Mirta or anyone who makes a mistake in some spell in the classroom. But Stella has been mocking the clothes the witches are wearing and when the Winx broke into the Trix's room in season 1 they were very judgemental about almost everything they saw there. In Alfea the fairies have been taught to avoid witches but they also think they're better than the witches (you can see this kind of attitude in the 2nd season when Winx girls hear they need to go to Cloudtower for a short exchange and they're like "fairies aren't slaves to to proudness like witches are". So is that any better? It feels like most of the schools are victims of thinking stereotypically about the different school and don't see the students individually. The witches and fairies have also been battling together against the evil and then had an after party together.

So I'm wondering, after all these years, who or what initially started the "fight" and confrontation between the fairies and witches? Are all of them victims of some old traditions and roles? They've co-operated many times, tho and the both sides have a bad attitude and stereotypical thinking about the other side. Why can specialists date and hang out with both fairies and witches freely and no one cares about that, but the witches and fairies still hate each other? Because none of these sides are angels and completely innocent.

Also the Trix are an exception, they're just evil   But that's why they weren't normal students and got kicked out from Cloudtower.

Also, have you seen any fairy wearing gothic or alternative clothes? I haven't and kinda don't even wonder why. I have a feeling that if I was a fairy, many fairies would judge me because of the gothic clothes I wear because I wouldn't look like a stereotypical fairy. Mirta seems to be the first one who doesn't look like a stereotypical fairy.

Honestly,I agree. The witch mistreatment seems like a type of racism,I can see why they think they are evil because of the Ancestral Witches. I hate how they were shown when Trix took over in Season 6.

It was sooo nice to see Faragonda and Griffin meet again at the end of season one after such a long time!
Before that, they were mostly just tattling on each other whenever one of their students sneaked into the other’s school lol.
But in the end, they actually seemed to get along!
I love how you could really tell that Faragonda cared about Griffin — she was clearly worried about her when she didn’t know what had happened  /flowerpower/
It was such a touching moment, honestly.
I also think it’s awesome that the teachers set an example that fairies and witches can totally get along and work together.
And the final battle of season one?? So epic, with everyone combining their powers!
Also, I love that Mirta and Lucy’s friendship stayed strong even after Mirta transferred to Alfea /flowerpower/

Indeed, I was thinking about racism but I wasn't sure if I can use the term correctly because I'm not a poc. But I agree with you. And the effect of the ancestral witches is a really good point!! Because Bloom and Sky were so shocked when Bloom thought she's a witch. Like, just hearing you're a witch seemed so terrible even Bloom hadn't do anything malicious. (Ok I remember the book told her a prophecy that she'll become evil or something like that but if I remember correctly Sky was shocked already when he heard the "I'm a witch" part). It seems like some witches are just born to be witches and it's not their fault. Mirta was an exception because being a witch wasn't her nature after all. Like, you technically CAN switch the school and learn to use your magic in a different way, but most of the witches are just born to be witches and that's their nature. And no witch should switch to Alfea only because of getting the approval if the fairies and the other way round. They can switch if they really feel that's who they are but usually they don't do it because it's not their nature. And they can't just hide their heritage and roots, the shadow of the ancestral witches. But the others shouldn't judge them because of their roots. Most of them don't even have anything to do with the ancestral witches.

1.
omg. i HATE sky. he was so poorly written in season 1. maybe it was because they were like 16. but they hardley talked n for some reason they liked each other. he was so shy and insecure. SEASON 2 SKY, he was sooo jealous. that teacher was helping bloom with her past and all that and he got SO jelous?!?!? why? bloom is 16/17 and that teacher was like middle aged. et over yourself. dont get me started on him being jealous of a unicorn in season 7... OH AND how he was engaged to someone else in season 1 and DIDNT tell her? oh annddd, how he did not listen to a WORD bloom sad in season 4. the way te guys stalked them really got on my nerves.

2.
i also dislike Brandon till season 4. maybe its a script change? since i watched it in dutch. but he CONSTANDLY flirted with other girls

3.
It made me so sad how they changed stella character after seaso 3. they made her dumb? why? Stella wasnt dumb at al. clumpsy sure. unaware at times. but NOT dumb. it feel like lazy writhing. i see this personality everywhere, honestly a copy and paste from al the other kid shows. i loved her in the first 3, wish they kept her that way

4. the way after season 4 they needed to have a new creature to bond with each season is also lazy. omg and the way the previous ones would just be gone next season. i thought yall bonded with your souls? forever linked and stuff? nope

5. BRING BACK KIKO?!??!?!?

6. they should have made faragonda more powerfull

7. once again comming for the writhing. we dont know much about a lot of the winx, and i find it a little disapointing. we dont need a deep dive on all of them but just a little intell would have been nice

8. bad writhing. we dont really see the friendschip between individuals. i loved Stella en blooms frienschip in the beginning Layla and Musa, Layla and Flora, ect but we dont really see that anymore. they kind of faded away? they blended in as one big group. i understand why i guess. but it doesnt really work like that

9. BLOOM CALLING HER PARENTS MIKE AND VANESSA? if they are or are not you bio parents doesnt matter. they are the people that RAISED you.

okay thats it for now i think! byebye <3

ill be back.... >:)

Yep, I see your point. I think that all of these can be described by a short term: bad writing. Witches are evil just because... they are evil? because witches stereotypically are? Well. And fairies are kind because they are fairies. That's it. As a child, I supported fairies only just because I was taught that you should be a kind and good person. So, from the point of view of a child, the world is simply black and white, and the series show this quite well. It is indeed a cartoon for children, but I feel like the author should have made some more effort to make it better. I can still rewatch W.i.t.c.h. and it will be pretty good despite it being a series for children, but I can't rewatch Winx. Still, as I child I sometimes noticed strange moments, but... Well, it would be better if they developed the magical world better and gave witches and fairies some more traits other than "bad" and "good". I don't understand the difference between these two categories except the clothes and the stereotypes. Some more logic is required...

Haha it really hurts to admit it but you're right. :? When I was a kid, I was hyping Winx so much that I wanted to unsee and ignore the flaws and I couldn't tolerate any criticism towards Winx Club. Well, then the 5th season aired and I had to face the truth of the bad writing. But I used to thought that "there's bad writing only in the later seasons, the seasons 1-3 are perfect!" But now I keep noticing new flaws when I'm not watching Winx through pink heart shaped glasses pretending it to be completely perfect anymore. I still love Winx Club so much and enjoy watching it, but now I'm more aware of the plot holes, stereotypes and the black-and-white setup they've made. And after reading some sooo good fanfics I'm even more aware of the flaws of the og show. But it's still precious to me /flowerpower/

It’s fine to see and accept the flaws and still love the show :D I feel like the worst thing that could happen, is that the show could affect children’s minds in a bad way, but as for me, it didn’t really teach me anything, I just enjoyed the fairies and the magic I saw. However, for some kids it might be harmful in some way because of black&white stereotypical thinking and other things such as the couple or Bloom and Sky as a bad example of a relationship. It’s really debatable though

Ikr! It was my first series and I’m happy to see other fans too :)

Yeah, in my childhood many teenagers who wore goth or alternative clothes were bullied irl so I was disappointed to see that kind of stereotypical thinking in Winx Club too. But I never thought that the show could have affected children that much. When I was a kid, I understood it's completely fictional and just enjoyed it without analysing it so deeply. Later I've read some discussion where many people have written that fairy x and fairy y were their role models and then I realized I never had that. My role models were always real people I knew or musicians I admired but not fictional characters (and there's nothing wrong with having a fictional characters as your role models, I just didn't have). For years and years I just enjoyed the show without thinking what we could learn from it. And when I finally saw this point of view, I was focused on only the positive aspects, like how Winxs' friendship is realistic because even though they're besties they still argue sometimes. But I haven't thought about the possible negative aspects and how they could affect children. Because even though they didn't affect me they could've affected someone else. So it's been super interesting to talk with you because I've got to see the show through so many new and even some pedagogical perspectives! :geek:

Anyway, luckily children are usually the least judgemental people and are just curious and open-minded if someone looks a bit different!

Someone should make a W.i.t.c.h. club on the Club are or a topic about it! :geek: But it's so cool it was your first series ❤️ Mine first was Winx so that's also why I'm so keen on it :D

It's really sad to hear :( Unfortunately I also did not like such style in clothes but I didn't bully anyone. Now I really like this style and I wish it was not so stigmatised back then. Though, we had a popular TV series in my country where one of the main characters was goth, and it was my favourite character. Of course it was deeper than it was shown in Winx and I quite liked the philosophy that was shown on the TV series.
I agree with you, for me there was no role-model in Winx, I barely remember having ANY role-models at all. I feel like I was always on my own and never looked up on any characters. I think you're are right, there still can be people who were affected in some way, it's just not us :D It's kind of normal
:) I enjoyed the conversation with you too! /flowerpower/ I'm a linguist by profession, but I had some pedagogical disciplines since I have the right to teach at school, probably THIS really affected me and now I look at the series from this perspective haha
Later I will definitely start the Witch fan club here, thank you for the idea
