Reading update

I haven't updated you in a while, so let's do this  I just started "The Chaos Protocol", it's from a Portuguese author. It's on my 25 books for 2025 reading list.

This weekend I finished two books: a romance and a mystery.

Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers was so much fun. I'll try to write a review for it whenever I have some time. It felt like a breath of fresh air. It's about a Chinese old lady who owns a teashop and one day she finds a body there. :o And starts investigating it! She acts like the police and as if it's her responsibility to get to the bottom of things.

Mega reading update

I've been away from this topic for far too long, but I'm back! :D Let me tell you what I've read this month.

Image

Por Fim em Silêncio is a YA from a Portuguese author. I didn't really like this one. The writing was messy and the story too childish for me. All the Lovers in the Night was one I had huge expectations for. It's about a proofreader and, as a translator myself, I sometimes do a bit of proofreading as well. But I think the story got lost along the way. It wasn't memorable, at all. Slow Burn Summer was such a great surprise! I'll add a little review later today. :)

Image

I can also add a small review for Starlight She Becomes. I read these last two books via netgalley. I really enjoyed it, but it was tough to read. Just For The Summer was the BEST book I read this month. I wouldn't change a thing, not even a comma. It was such a funny and sweet romance novel. The synopsis left me intrigued and it really did not disappoint!

Image

We Have Always Lived in the Castle was a weird one. It was okay, but strange. There are really no answers at the end, just dark and creepy vibes. And, lastly, The Paper Palace. I honestly hated this one. There was no story, nothing really going on. The book kept changing timelines, which made it difficult to follow. And there are some major events throughout the book, it's not a light book, at all! So be careful about this one, go check the trigger warnings before beginning to read it. I was just glad it was finally over.

Slow Burn Summer, by Josie Silver

    Image

This one really kept me stuck to my e-reader! A book about books and the publishing industry? Sign me up!

I enjoyed reading this so much. It's a slow burn story, which I don't usually enjoy as much, but it actually felt like it was written in a steady pace. It's light and fun, but it also mentions less positive situations and feelings, which gives the book a nice touch of reality.

I really liked the interactions between Kate and Charlie, they seemed to compliment each other from the beginning of the story. The other characters were also very well written and shaped, and I think Liv (Kate's sister) might be my favourite one! She's so funny and protective of her sister.

If you're looking for a romance novel with a touch of mystery, drama and still capable to give you a good laugh, this one's for you!

Starlight She Becomes: Poems, by Parker Lee

    Image

This is a deeply personal and emotional collection of poems and prose, showcasing the author's deepest emotions, whether they're brighter or darker ones, just like life.

It's a powerful queer book with strong and inspiring message. Definitely worth reading.

"You are so much more than they could ever comprehend."

I know! :o
May and June were really good months when it comes to reading. The e-reader also helped me reading faster.

I have that written on my book journal (my favourite book each month), I'll let you know later (I just woke up haha).
